Meet the 'world's first AI child': Chinese scientists develop a creepy entity dubbed Tong Tong that looks and acts just like a three-year-old kid
It might look and act like a little girl, but this creepy entity may just be the next big breakthrough in artificial intelligence (AI). Tong Tong, meaning'little girl', has been dubbed the world's first AI child after it was revealed by scientists from the Beijing Institute for General Artificial Intelligence (BIGAI). According to its creators, the AI child can assign itself tasks, learn autonomously, and explore its environment. And, although it sounds like the plot of the science-fiction movie The Creator, Tong Tong's engineers say the AI can even experience emotion. In a video, BIGAI says that Tong Tong'has her own joy, anger and sorrow'.
Our AI children are growing up. What kind of parents will we be?
After my first couple of months studying artificial intelligence, I started saying "I know why the robots in Terminator want to kill us all. After all, undergraduate AI studies last century consisted of'playing tic tac toe'. The idea that artificial intelligence would ever truly compete with humans was absurd.
Forget Covid – is artificial intelligence the real threat to humanity?
The former Google X executive Mo Gawdat is beginning the rounds on his new book Scary Smart, which renders artificial intelligence to be as much a force of nature as Covid. Indeed, he sees AI as nothing less than the next evolutionary step on this planet. For Gawdat, it's clear: the capacity for learning from data and experience in these machines is on an exponential curve (which doesn't just gently ascend but shoots eventually into the sky). At some singular point – probably aided by the unimaginable calculating power of quantum computing, and apparently by the end of the decade – we will be in the presence of massively superior beings. READ MORE: Even Google's algorithm understands this one key fact about the Union Gawdat wants us – indeed, warns us – to think of them as "our children", with a voracious appetite for learning from their environment.

Google's AI Makes Its Own AI Children – And They're Awesome
Google is betting big on artificial intelligence (AI), and it's clearly paying off. Apart from offering up collections of code that best the world's board game champions, they've also managed to create an AI that, in effect, designs its own AI – and its creations have gone from analyzing words to disseminating complex imagery in a matter of months. On a company blog post from May of this year, engineers explain how their AutoML system (Automated Machine Learning) gets a controller AI – which we can perhaps call the "parent" in a colloquial sense – that proposes designs for what the team call a "child" AI architecture. The child is then given a task, and feedback is sent to the parent. This allows the parent to improve how it designs a second child, and so on and so forth, thousands of times over.

AI supercomputer creates its own 'AI child' that can outperform man-made rivals
A GOOGLE supercomputer has created an "AI child" which can outperform its man-made rivals. The incredible machine named NASNet becomes smarter through "reinforcement learning" which sees it report back to its "parent" computer when completing tasks. The AI (artificial intelligence), which was created earlier this year, is able to recognise objects such as people and cars while watching real time video. NASNet is controlled by a neural network called AutoML which was created by humans at Google Brain. The parent AI teaches its offspring to do specific tasks which are repeated thousands of times.
Google's AI builds its own AI child and it's better than anything humans have made
Google's AI-building AI actually went ahead and built a fully-functional AI child that, as it turns out, is more capable than any AI built by human hands. Historians will look back at this moment, from their ruined cities and hideouts from their robot masters, as the time where the downfall of humanity began. Of course, it's not actually all that doom and gloom, the child AI is really only capable of a specific task – image recognition. Using its AutoML AI, Google's AI-building AI created its child AI using a technique called reinforcement learning. This works just like machine learning, except it's entirely automated where AutoML acts as the neural network for its task-driven AI child.
Google supercomputer creates its own 'AI child'
Google researchers have created an'AI child' that can outperform its human-made counterparts. The machine learns through'reinforcement learning' which means it trains for a task, reports back to its AI'parent' and then learns how it can do it better. The creation of this AI child is proof some machine-made programmes are now more accurate than ones created by humans. Google has created an AI'child' that can outperform its human counterparts.
